Super Smoothie
Be creative with your Super Smoothie!

The Super Smoothie is a recipe that ticks all the boxes nutritionally: It is affordable and mainly sourced from New Zealand manufacturers. The Super Smoothie is not a food supplement. It is a nutrient-packed meal. It is not additional to your groceries - it is part of your groceries.

Gram-for-gram for protein, the Super Smoothie is better value than buying a steak or leg of lamb from the supermarket.

Supercharge yourself with a Super Smoothie!

The Super Smoothie is the perfect way to start your day, and it is the ideal recovery meal following strenuous exercise. Give the Smoothie to the elderly, the infirm, or anybody who needs a nutrient-packed meal without excessive calories. It is perfect to have during pregnancy and when breastfeeding.

Share your smoothies with your family, especially your children. It's an affordable way to get all your nutrients without taking many vitamin pills.

"I am writing to let you know that the recipe and powder you gave me are working a treat!

After my 10km run, my legs felt like they could get quite sore! They were achy on Sunday, but by Monday, I was fine! I can't believe it! Usually, I get the sorest muscles, which last four to five days! I ran 59.51, so I made my goal and was 3rd in my age group, so I was super stoked! :-)"

The Super Smoothie Recipe

Storage and convenience

Empty the powders into a large mixing bowl, then combine them thoroughly using a cake mixer. Store the mix in 2-3 airtight glass containers, ready for quick use when in a hurry. Store the jars in a cool, dark place, and use one pot at a time so it is kept fresh.

Add these extras according to taste and preferences (you'll need a blender if adding solids)

  • Seasonal fruits and vegetables.

  • Coconut cream. Coconut water.

  • Whole cream milk (silver top).

  • If needed, water (avoid fruit juice because it may be too much sugar).

  • Add one fresh free-range egg with 10 seconds to go when blending (do not blend the egg too long to prevent damage to the delicate nutrients).

How much protein do you need daily?

Here is a handy calculator and informative article about protein:

How much to take each day

Use the measuring scoop that comes with the pot of Douglas UltraProtein. One-half scoop per person per day is about right. However, a full scoop and even two scoops spread over the day are fine because there is no mega-dosing of the vitamins and minerals in the Super Smoothie.

The key to good nutrition is to dribble in a baseline supply of essential nutrients most days rather than bomb the body now and then with mega-doses. The Super Smoothie does this for you.

When to have the Super Smoothie

As an energising breakfast

Most people prefer to start the day with a Super Smoothie. It is a meal on the run and energising!

To restore energy

You may find it refreshing and regenerating to have an extra Super Smoothie during or at the end of a hard day. It is the perfect choice of refreshment following a demanding physical workout.

For serious athletes

Many athletes find it convenient to carry a small pot of Super Smoothie premix and a shaker with them to their training or when on the road to whip up a quick shake with either plain water or some other liquid such as silver top milk or coconut milk, coconut water, or a mix of the lot.

As the last meal before a competition

The smoothie digests quickly, so it may be suitable as a pre-competition meal, taken 2-3 hours before the whistle blows. For additional energy, you might experiment with blending in Weetbix or porridge. Whatever you do, test in training and don't take it for the first time on the morning of the Big Competition!

When bike touring, hiking, or multi-day adventure racing

It is perfect for taking with you when doing extended endurance activities such as multi-day hiking. It is compact and light - carry servings in plastic bags and add water.

It is not just for athletes

The Super Smoothie is ideal and safe for children, pregnant and nursing Mums, the elderly and the infirm. It is excellent for anybody struggling with ill health or poor recovery following an injury or surgery. It is the superior alternative to multivitamins.

Two potent extras to accompany the Super Smoothie

Although the Super Smoothie is as close to complete as can be for nutrients, there are two additions for the person seeking super-duper good health:

  1. 2-4 capsules of Algotene daily. Algotene is nutrient-packed and includes potent fat-soluble anti-oxidants and trace elements, including iodine and lithium.

  2. Vitamin D: 2-4,000iu/per day during summer and 4,000iu/day during winter. For a child, add some vitamin D drops calculated as per the label:

Handy Tips

  1. The perfect addition to the Super Smoothie is my Metabolic Energiser and Recovery Drink. While these homemade formulas may seem to cost a lot of money, the Super Smoothie and Energiser go a long way and are good value over the long term.

  2. If a person, such as a child, wishes to swallow a pill but has trouble getting them down, the thick creamy liquid of the Super Smoothie may do the trick compared to water alone. The viscous liquid will grab the pills, sweep them down the throat, and mask any unpleasant taste.

Enjoy a Super Smoothie!
